Bringing District 7 Together for Traffic Safety

The FDOT District 7 CTST Regional Summit brings Community Traffic Safety Team members, transportation professionals, safety partners, and community leaders from across District 7 to connect, share ideas, and advance traffic safety.

This annual forum provides an opportunity to learn from one another, explore innovative approaches to traffic safety, recognize the work happening across District 7, and strengthen partnerships that help make our communities safer.

The Regional Summit is designed to bring the District 7 CTST community together beyond individual team meetings. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

8:30 AM - 9:00 AM: Registration, Breakfast & Networking

9:00 AM - 9:15 AM: Opening Remarks

9:15 AM - 9:30 AM: District 7 Safety Performance, Kelly Farabee, FDOT District 7, Traffic Safety Program Engineer

9:30 AM - 9:45 AM: 6 Fatalities, 1 Road, 10 Months, John Rieman, Pinellas County Public Works

John will examine a sobering traffic safety story along Ulmerton Road: six fatalities occurring on one roadway over a 10-month period. The presentation will explore the circumstances surrounding these crashes, what the data can tell us about the corridor, and the importance of identifying opportunities to improve safety and prevent future fatalities.

9:45 AM - 10:45 AM: Mini RSA Exercise

A facilitated, hands-on safety review where participants will work in small groups to identify roadway safety issues, discuss locations of concern, and develop potential short-, mid-, and long-term improvements. Groups will review crash data, existing conditions, and field observations before sharing their findings with the larger group.

10:45 AM - 11:00 AM: Morning Break and Vendor Table Showcase

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Virginia Tech Transportation Institute – Sharing the Road with Trucks

Experience the Road from a Truck Driver’s Perspective: A hands-on demonstration highlighting truck blind spots, or “No-Zones,” and practical tips for safely sharing the road with large commercial vehicles. Participants will experience the driver’s perspective from the cab and learn about safe following distances, passing, and truck maneuvering.

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch, Networking, and Vendor Table Showcase

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: E-Bike Demonstration, Tina Russo, FDOT District 7, Bike and Ped Program Manager

Join Tina for a hands-on look at e-bike safety and micromobility. The demonstration will provide an opportunity to better understand e-bike operation, safety considerations, and how these increasingly popular modes interact with other road users and transportation facilities.

AICP CM Credits

As the agenda is developed and sessions are finalized, AICP CM credits will be pursued for eligible sessions where the content is relevant and meets APA’s requirements. More information to come.
