Labor Day – Recipes for the Road
August 20, 2025
| 8-14-25 The 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are referred to as the 100 deadliest days for teen drivers. During this time, teen crashes occur more frequently across the U.S. The “100 Deadly Days of Summer” campaign seeks to raise awareness about the increased dangers associated with teen driving. Teens make up a large portion of Florida’s driving population, with over 900,000 registered drivers aged 15 to 19 (source). Whether you’re a parent, sibling, neighbor, or friend, chances are you know a teen driver. Let’s work together to help keep them safe. Raising Internal Awareness: No matter what office you officially call ‘home,’ we all can play a role in supporting safety Learn about the Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition and explore the great tools and resources provided for outreach and education. Download the Teen Traffic Safety Posters from the Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition here and/or request free print materials using the form linked here. Equip yourself with the latest crash data and discuss with your team by downloading the Florida Teen Driver 2025 Fact Sheet. In the Community: Grass-roots outreach efforts greatly improve safety messaging effectiveness – these one-on-one conversations have far-reaching impacts The Safe Driving Guide for Teens and Parents is an all-encompassing safety guide that supports necessary conversations between parents and teens before their teen gets behind the wheel. Download and request copies of this guide here to share within the community. Share Florida’s Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws with parents of teen drivers to support awareness and understanding. Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws are designed to limit night driving and other high-risk situations for drivers under 18. View additional resources, including print materials, here. In Your Everyday Life: Even when you’re not ‘on-the-clock,’ there are ways to improve safety culture in Florida Are you the parent of a teen driver? Download the Teen and Parent Driving Agreement attached here to help spark conversation. This agreement will help you and your teen talk through important decisions and expectations before they get behind the wheel. In Florida alone, teen drivers were involved in 80,865 crashes in 2023, resulting in 323 fatalities and 1,785 serious injuries (Teen Safe Driver Coalition 2025 Fact Sheet). Crashes involving teen drivers often result from inexperience and risky behaviors, such as speeding, not wearing a safety belt, and distractions caused by phones or passengers. Support teens drivers by modeling safe behaviors behind the wheel: If you’re driving or riding as a passenger, wear your safety belt properly. Limit distractions and keep both hands on the wheel. Drive sober and remain alert. Obey posted speed limits. Let’s be champions for safety, both in and out of the office. Every conversation, every reminder, and every safe choice helps protect Florida’s next generation of drivers. Thank you for everything you do to make our roads safer!
