| Every day, we come together with one shared mission: making Florida’s roads safer. Achieving that mission starts with understanding and promoting safer driving solutions, such as roundabouts. Over 44% of all traffic fatalities and serious injuries in Florida occur at conventional intersections. Studies show that modern roundabouts reduce fatal and severe injury crashes by 82% compared to stop-controlled intersections, and 78% compared to signalized intersections. (source ). We can support roundabout safety by familiarizing ourselves with the rules of the roundabout, as well as sharing this knowledge with our communities. Raising Internal Awareness: No matter what office you officially call ‘home,’ we all can play a role in supporting safety -have been proven to keep traffic moving efficiently and reduce crashes. Discuss internally and share the knowledge: -Attached are Safety Moment Slides with key tips for navigating roundabouts. -You’ll also find large-format graphics for visual tabletop demonstrations. Grab some toy cars and get hands-on! In the Community: Grass-roots outreach efforts greatly improve safety messaging effectiveness – these one-on-one conversations have far-reaching impacts -Motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists utilize roundabouts to reach their destination. Share the Alert Today Florida Guide to Modern Roundabouts with community groups, including bicyclist organizations. This guide is a great resource for all road users.
