| This week, FDOT is joining our rail partners, local law enforcement agencies, schools, and community partners in recognizing Rail Safety Week. Throughout the week, organizations across the state will work together to raise awareness about railroad crossing safety and the importance of making safe decisions, reminding us all that there is zero room for error near railroad tracks. As rail safety is truly a shared responsibility, FDOT continues investing in railroad crossing improvements through enhanced design standards and new technologies that are advancing safety and helping save lives across our state. Earlier this year, FDOT established the most robust rail safety standards in the nation to fundamentally improve how rail crossings are designed for safety. As we announced last month, FDOT received a grant from the Federal Railroad Administration that we are using to completely overhaul rail crossings in our state by deploying our one-of-a-kind design standards at over 900 high-priority crossings across Florida. This transformational investment will bring enhanced safety features to crossings throughout the state, helping to prevent tragedies and save lives. As transportation professionals, Rail Safety Week also provides an opportunity for us to reinforce these messages in the communities we serve. Together, we can reach our vision of Target Zero.
